1. Baby Basics

Baby Basics is a volunteer-led project aiming to support new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby or child under 5 yrs. Baby Basics started in Sheffield in the spring of 2009, this centre continues to support families across Sheffield working with a wide range of frontline health and social care professionals. There is an ever increasing network of Baby Basics centres across the country each staffed by a committed team of volunteers.
Baby Basics provides much needed essentials and equipment to mothers and families who are unable to provide these items for themselves; including but not limited to teenage mums, people seeking asylum, refugees and women fleeing domestic abuse and trafficking.
Through our National Warehouse, Baby Basics UK is supporting Afghan families in ‘bridging hotels’ and is now committed to supporting ‘Homes for Ukraine’ host families to ensure we are supporting Ukrainian families resettling in the UK.

2. Banana Box - toys, games, books, stationary (up to 11yo) - North Yorkshire only

The Banana Box Toy Project was launched in March 2020 to provide educational toys to disadvantaged families in order to promote a child’s learning and development of social skills. We rely on donations of quality used and new toys and funding to provide age-appropriate toys, games, books and stationery items for children up to 11 years old. We also have specific resources to cater for children with special needs.The service operates from Selby in North Yorkshire and we are proud to partner with Opora to offer this service to children arriving to the area from Ukraine. We can only operate within the catchment area in which the charity is registered so ask that you confirm that you live within 20 miles of Selby before proceeding with a request. Please also note that we can only cater for primary school children (up to and including age 11). We rely on volunteers to deliver our Banana Boxes across the area so if you are able to collect from Selby in person then please indicate this in the form below.

5. Opora Business Grants to Ukrainian refugee-led businesses

We believe supporting Ukrainian entrepreneurs is one of the best ways to facilitate sustainable, long-term ways of rebuilding Ukrainian lives in the UK, multiplying impact through further job-creation and contributing to the local economy.Opora will offer start-up business grants up to the value of £5,000 each. The business grant will be offered in combination with business support and ongoing advisory, to also facilitate successful deployment of the grant for maximum impact.Opora will offer start-up business grants up to the value of £5,000 each.The business grant will be offered in combination with business support and ongoing advisory, to also facilitate successful deployment of the grant for maximum impact.
